Damien Doherty
LINKS SUPERINTENDENT
Having started his career in the summer of 1993 joining North West GC as a Trainee Greenkeeper and as part of his development he attended Greenmount Collage gaining NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Sports Turf Management and won Toro Student Greenkeeper of the year. Damien went on to become Deputy Golf Course Manager at the prestigious Malone Golf Club in Belfast. In his time in Belfast he attended SRUC Elmwood College, Cupar, Scotland and achieved a HND in Sports Turf Management. Returning to North West GC in 2008 to take up the reins from retiring Links Superintendent Plunkett Duffy.
Damien and his Greenkeeping team set about implemented a major Bunker renovation project that redesigned and Revetted all 74 Bunkers on the Course. Reclaimed and built the historic 4th hole that was lost to coastal erosion some years prior and continues to implement improvements to the Course. He upholds the tradition values and preserves the true links ethos in managing a traditional Links Golf Course. Having worked as part of the Course Preparation Team in the Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Links & Royal Portrush Golf Club, also working at the Irish Open Events at Royal Portrush GC, Royal County Down GC, Portstewart GC and Ballyliffin GC in the Irish Open Events has been a valuable experience.
